London Soul Music Tours – Showcasing Hidden History
Paving the way for Londons’ soul and Motown tribute.
There is no doubt that London has a rich history of Motown and Soul music gracing its shores for many years. Great musical legends performed and recorded their most memorable hits right in the heart of the city. London Soul Music Tours highlights a rich history of how Soul, Jazz and eventually Motown was an integral part of London nightlife going way back to the 1950’s and 60’s. They take you off the beaten track to hidden spots where the artists hung out, partied and performed, the scandals, the gossip and of course, the Londoners themselves that had an impact behind the scene.
As the youngest of four, Stephens’ musical heritage is founded on sultry 60’s – 70’s Soul, Motown, 8o’s-90′s R’n’b, Funk, Gospel, and everything in between. Born and raised in South London, the idea to combine his love of music and a deep knowledge of his home city was a natural choice to make. Now a DJ and soul music fan, his ambition is for the tour to be a great London experience for you, and a golden opportunity to pay homage to the amazing musical geniuses both old and new that continue to touch our lives with their greatest gift.
London Soul Music Tours will launch a brand new walking tour of central London’s former music venues. The tours will begin in August 2015 and will expose visitors and residents to a facet of modern London history which is rarely highlighted. The tours will be set against a backdrop of Soul and Motown music.
Beginning on Saturday, August 1st, the tour will lead guests off the beaten path from Oxford Circus to Covent Garden looking at venues that were prominent in showcasing black American music to a British audience. Soul music enthusiasts will enjoy the walk down memory lane and discover where their favourite artists performed and recorded some of their greatest hits and where they hung out and partied. Unveiled will be the famous personalities and the colourful London residents who helped shape the scene and lived to tell the tale.
A spokesperson for the London Soul Music Tours explained, “Each tour will have a maximum of 15 spaces, so that walkers will be able to hear, follow and interact comfortably with the tour guide.” The tours will take place each Friday and Saturday. We will be leaving at 10:30 am and/or 2:30 pm from a central London location.”
The cost of each tour is £12 per person, and you can make your payment in advance by clicking the event listing below. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 07899 622 185.
